Description: A vulnerability has been reported in Windows 2000, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in Microsoft Message Queuing Service ("mqsvc.exe") when handling search criterias in "MQLocateBegin" packets. This can be exploited by sending a packet that supplies an overly long, specially crafted structure to the "pRestriction" parameter, which causes a heap overflow.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system.
The vulnerability has been reported in Windows 2000 with SP2 installed. However, SP3 and other versions may also be affected.
A PoC (Proof of Concept) exploit is available.
Solution: The vulnerability was reportedly fixed in Service Pack 4.
