|
Description: A vulnerability has been reported in WU-FTPD, which potentially can be exploited by malicious users to compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the "SockPrintf()" function. This can be exploited by uploading a file with an overly long, specially crafted name, which causes a buffer overflow when the program tries to inform the administrator that a file has been uploaded anonymously.
Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code on the system. However, it requires that the option "MAIL_ADMIN" has been enabled (not default), that anonymous users have write permissions on a folder, and that the program has been compiled on a system where very long paths are permitted.
Solution: Make sure that the "MAIL_ADMIN" option is disabled in the configuration file.
