Description: A vulnerability has been identified in oMail-webmail, which can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a vulnerable system.
The vulnerability is caused due to input validation errors in the "checklogin()" function. The problem is that user input supplied to the variables "$domainname", "$username", and "$password" isn't sufficiently checked. This can be exploited to execute arbitrary code on the system by supplying input containing various shell meta characters.
Reportedly all versions including 0.98.5 are vulnerable.
Solution: Use another product.
Provided and/or discovered by: Phillip Whelan
Thijs Dalhuijsen (information about inadequate patch)
Original Advisory: 2004-05-05: Reportedly the original patch was insufficient.
