Description:
Two vulnerabilities have been reported in IBM U2 UniVerse in the "uvadmsh" utility, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to escalate their privileges on a vulnerable system.

A boundary error when processing command line arguments can be exploited to cause a buffer overflow. This allows execution of arbitrary code with "root" privileges if the "-uv.install" parameter is used. However, successful exploitation requires that the user already has "uvadm" privileges.

An insecure check can be exploited to gain "root" privileges by creating a malicious "uv.install" file and execute it with the utility.

PoC (Proof of Concept) exploits can be seen in the original advisories.

The vulnerabilities have been reported in version 10.0.0.9 and prior.

Solution:
Remove the suid bit.

Reportedly, this will be fixed in future versions.

Provided and/or discovered by:
KF (Secure Network Operations)
