Description:
A vulnerability has been identified in the Netscape, which potentially can be exploited by malicious people to compromise a user's system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the Client Detection Tool (CDT) plug-in. This can be exploited by sending an email with a specially crafted attachment to a user, which may cause a buffer overflow and allow execution of arbitrary code with the user's privileges.

Successful exploitation requires that the user is tricked into double-clicking the attachment. Furthermore, the OS type and length of the user's username must be known.

The vulnerability has been reported in version 7.02 for Windows. However, prior versions may also be affected.

Solution:
Remove the plug-in (npcdt.dll), or update to the latest version, which doesn't include the affected plug-in.
