Description: A vulnerability has been identified in Microsoft Internet Explorer allowing malicious people to conduct Cross Site Scripting against any site running a FTP service on a wildcard domain.
The problem is that Internet Explorer doesn't verify if domain names are valid when generating the "classic" folder view when browsing FTP servers. This allows malicious people to create malicious links like "%3csome_html_or_script%3e.a_domain". Any script or html will be executed in the security context of that domain.
This has been reported to affect all current versions of Internet Explorer from 5.01 to 6 with all patches and service packs.
Solution: Fixed at some point by the latest Service Packs and patches.

Changelog: 2004-02-09: Updated "Solution" section.
