Description: Two vulnerabilities have been identified in Splatt Forum 4.0 for PHP-Nuke 6, which can be exploited by malicious people to conduct Cross-Site Scripting attacks against other users.
1) When a user posts messages, special characters are not stripped making it possible to inject malicious script code.
Example exploit from original advisory:
Some test text for fun <script>alert(document.cookie);</script> some more text goes here...
2) When a user makes a search, the "searched keyword" will be displayed on the page without input validation. This makes it possible to inject malicious code on the page.
Solution: Reportedly, the vendor has released an updated version: "Splatt Forum 4.0 Fix 1". This might fix the vulnerabilities but this has not been confirmed.
As an alternate solution you could edit the source code to validate user input. Filter malicious characters in a HTTP proxy or firewall with URL filtering capabilities.
