Description: Two vulnerabilities have been identified in "mod_ntlm", which is a module available for the Apache web server.
Both vulnerabilities exist in the function "log()" and are caused due to a boundary error and a format string error. A malicious person can exploit the vulnerabilities by either supplying format specifiers or about 2048 bytes of specially crafted data in the "Authorization:" header.
Successful exploitation can result in execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system with the privileges of the web server.
The following two examples were included in the original advisory:
GET / HTTP/1.0
Authorization: [Ax3000]
GET / HTTP/1.0
Authorization: %n%n%n%n
Solution: Filter requests with format specifiers or a great amount of data in the "Authorization:" header.
