Description: A vulnerability has been reported in Progress, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to escalate their privileges.
The vulnerability is caused by a boundary error in the handling of the BINPATHX variable used to specify the location of shared libraries. When a binary uses the BINPATHX variable, the length of the content is not checked, which can result in a buffer overflow. A malicious, local user can exploit this to execute arbitrary code with escalated privileges by manipulating the variable.
Solution: The vulnerability has been fixed in patch 9.1D05:
