Description: A security issue has been reported in Symantec Altiris Deployment Solution, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to disclose sensitive information and potentially gain escalated privileges.
The problem is that the AClient password is stored in clear text in memory used by the AClient.exe process. This can be exploited to e.g. retrieve the password for the local agent admin interface by dumping the AClient.exe process memory.
Successful exploitation may e.g. allow execution of arbitrary code with escalated privileges via the local agent admin interface.
The security issue is reported in version 6.8.x (all builds).
Solution: Update to version 6.9.164.
Provided and/or discovered by: The vendor credits Mazin Faour of Information Risk Management.
Changelog: 2008-04-15: Added CVE reference.
