Description: l0om has reported a vulnerability in SuSE, allowing malicious, local users to escalate their privileges on a vulnerable system.
The problem is that the "SuSEconfig.gnome-filesystem" script creates a temporary file (/tmp/tmp.SuSEconfig.gnome-filesystem.XXXXX) with a limited number of random characters in the name. This can be exploited through a symlink attack by creating all possible combinations of the filename.
The vulnerability has been reported in SuSE 9.0.
Solution: Do not use YaST on systems with untrusted users.
Provided and/or discovered by: l0om
