Description:
A security issue has been identified in the Opera browser, which can be exploited by malicious people to place arbitrary files on a user's system in certain known locations.
The problem is that use of certain Opera specific MIME types (eg. "application/x-opera-skin") can be exploited to place an arbitrary file with an arbitrary extension in certain folders.
NOTE: This issue alone does not allow for the file to be executed automatically.
An input validation error in the "opera:" URI handler has also been reported, which can be exploited to open files in arbitrary locations on a user's system via directory traversal attacks. This file has to be a type supported by Opera (eg. ".html" and ".txt" files).
Solution:
Update to version 7.22.
