Description: A vulnerability has been reported in tc.SimpleWebServer allowing malicious people to conduct directory traversal attacks.
The problem is that the input validation fails to detect the use of three dots instead of two dots in HTTP requests. This allows malicious people to see arbitrary files using the ".../" character sequence.
This has been reported in version 2.13.31027 Build 3289.
Solution: Filter malicious characters and character sequences in a HTTP proxy or firewall with URL filtering capabilities.
The impact of directory traversal attacks can be lessened by placing the web root on a separate drive letter or by restricting access using NTFS.
