Description:
A vulnerability has been identified in Mercur Mailserver, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) or compromise a vulnerable system.

The vulnerability is caused due to a boundary error in the Base64 decoding routine when handling data supplied with the "AUTH" command. This can be exploited by supplying overly long, specially crafted login data, which causes a buffer overflow.

Successful exploitation crashes the Mercur services or allows execution of arbitrary code on the vulnerable system.

The vulnerability affects version 4.2 without SP3a installed.

Solution:
Apply Service Pack 3a:
